During a press briefing regarding the rally, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh announced the participation of party leader Mallikarjun Kharge, along with former party president Rahul Gandhi, and other prominent leaders.

Ramesh stressed that the rally transcends personal interests, hence its name "Loktantra Bachao Rally," encompassing the involvement of around 27-28 political parties united under the INDIA jan bandhan umbrella.

This statement gains significance in light of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) portraying the rally as a response to the Enforcement Directorate's actions against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Ramesh reiterated that the Indian National Developmental Inclusive alliance (INDIA) kickstarted its election campaign in Mumbai on March 17, and this rally marks its second electoral call.

The event aims to underscore solidarity and coherence within the opposition bloc while addressing pressing issues such as inflation, record-high unemployment, economic disparities, social divisions, and agrarian injustices.

Ramesh highlighted the misuse of central agencies to target opposition figures, citing instances of arrests of chief ministers and ministers to politically undermine opposition parties.

The rally will also address concerns regarding the alleged extortion through electoral bonds and the purported "tax terrorism" faced by the Congress, with Ramesh mentioning recent income tax notices received by the party.

Central to the rally's objective is the protection of the Constitution, amidst BJP leaders' statements hinting at potential revisions, emphasizing that it's not about defending any individual but safeguarding the fundamental framework of governance.
