A few days after his meeting with Congress leader K.C. Venugopal in Delhi, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, a five-time former Lok Sabha member, took to social media to indirectly criticize his party's leadership for allegedly showing leniency towards the Trinamool Congress.
“Who else other than us will speak on behalf of our party workers who are being beaten up every day by the ruling Trinamool Congress activists in West Bengal? The ruling party in the state is trying to break Congress on a daily basis. Despite officially being a part of the I.N.D.I.A. bloc, they have not stopped oppressing us," Chowdhury stated in his social media post on Tuesday night.
"In such a situation how can I remain silent against Trinamool Congress? If I do that I will be doing injustice to my grassroots-level party workers. I cannot do that," Chowdhury added.
He urged the party leadership to engage in dialogues with grassroots Congress workers in West Bengal to understand the ground realities.
"Delhi needs to speak to those party workers in West Bengal who are struggling daily and protesting on the streets to keep the party flag. Their opinion is important and hence they should also be called to Delhi," Chowdhury asserted.
He reassured his commitment towards grassroots Congress workers across the state at the end of the post. "I will be there on the streets with my party colleagues and carry forward their movement. I have not to compromise with injustice. I will never do that," he emphasized.
Chowdhury’s disagreements with the Congress leadership began to emerge even before the recent Lok Sabha polls. This was after the party’s national president, Mallikarjun Kharge, stated in May that Chowdhury was not in a position to decide the post-poll government formation steps, as that was the responsibility of the party high command.
Kharge even remarked that one must either adhere to the party high command's decisions or step aside.
Responding to Kharge's statement, Chowdhury had asserted that as a member of the Congress working committee, he too was part of the party's high command.
