The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi faced resistance from entering the city of Guwahati on Tuesday, leading to protests from Congress workers. The police used force to prevent the Yatra from moving forward, and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier stated that the Yatra would not be allowed to enter the city to avoid traffic congestion.
Despite the impediments, large crowds gathered at Guwahati Chowk in Khanapara to welcome Rahul Gandhi with slogans and drum beats. Congress workers broke barricades and raised slogans, leading to clashes with the police who used force to control the situation.
AICC in-charge for Assam, Jitendra Singh, declared victory, stating, "We have won as we have broken the barricades." The Yatra, which entered Meghalaya on Monday, returned to Assam for its final leg and is scheduled to travel through the outskirts of Guwahati. The Yatra will remain in Assam until Thursday.
