Gaurav Gogoi admitted only 10 pc of his Pakistan visit, Says Assam CM

Addressing the media, Sarma asserted that Gogoi’s admission regarding his 2013 trip to Pakistan only represented “10 per cent” of the actual facts.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma intensified his attack on Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Wednesday, making serious accusations about Gogoi’s purported connections with Pakistan’s establishment and promising to reveal “damning” proof on September 10.

Addressing the media, Sarma asserted that Gogoi’s admission regarding his 2013 trip to Pakistan only represented “10 per cent” of the actual facts.

"What I am going to disclose on September 10 will make Rahul Gandhi wish he had not given such a person a position of leadership," Sarma said, talking about Gogoi's position as the Congress president for Assam.

He also cautioned, "There are serious national security concerns. We will act on September 10."

Sarma went on to allege that Gogoi’s wife was involved in collecting sensitive information related to the Indian government, allegedly on behalf of international climate organizations.

“We have documents to prove that his wife was collecting intelligence outputs of the Government of India. This operation is directly linked,” Sarma claimed, though he did not present these documents publicly.

He also hinted at possible links to Pakistan’s Interior Ministry and its intelligence agency, the ISI.

Sarma questioned the timing and circumstances of Gogoi’s visit to Pakistan, expressing greater concern because it took place before Gogoi became a Member of Parliament.

“That’s more dangerous, because at that time he was residing at the Chief Minister’s residence. How can the son of a Chief Minister travel like that?” Sarma questioned.

He also raised questions on the citizenship status of Gogoi's family, and he claimed to possess documents showing that Gogoi had submitted an application to alter his son's citizenship in 2021, even though the child was earlier an Indian citizen.

"His son handed over his British passport in 2021. His daughter was born in England, that I know," Sarma added.

Accusing the Congress party of maintaining a long-standing closeness to Pakistan, Sarma argued that by appointing Gogoi to a prominent leadership position, the party had once again shown its alleged sympathies towards India’s western neighbour.

“Rahul Gandhi must answer now. The Congress has always patronised Pakistan—and in Gogoi’s appointment, they’ve done it again,” he claimed.

In response, Gaurav Gogoi addressed the controversy surrounding his 2013 Pakistan visit and his wife’s career.

Trying to clear all the rumors and social media speculations regarding his family's involvement, Gogoi made it clear that his wife, Elizabeth Colburn Gogoi, was associated with an international NGO and had served in Pakistan for a year in 2011 as part of her official posting.

"I have gone there only once, in 2013, in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Government of India," he stated.
