Elon Musk says he will move the headquarters of his aerospace company and the X social media platform out of California. He announced that move after a new California law passed prohibiting schools from compelling parental notification in case a student wants to use names or pronouns different from what it says on their birth certificate.
" This is the final straw. For this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies," the tech billionaire posted.
"SpaceX will now move its HQ from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas," noted Musk.
Musk had explained to California Governor Gavin Newsom how the law damaged families and businesses. I warned the governor a year ago these types of laws would force families and companies to leave California to keep their children safe.
He also expressed his frustration at what's happening in the state, citing recent problems with crime. Tesla had already relocated its headquarters from California to Texas.
Commenting about the decision, an X user put forward how Americans can easily move from state to state depending on their values.
The new SpaceX headquarters will be based at Starbase, adjacent to Brownsville, Texas, while the X social media platform will relocate from San Francisco to Austin, Texas.
"Have had enough of dodging gangs of violent drug addicts just to get in and out of the building," said Musk.
