Amanatullah Khan, an MLA from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), underwent extensive questioning by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday, lasting over 12 hours. The interrogation was in connection with a money laundering investigation linked to alleged irregularities within the Delhi Waqf Board during his tenure as its chairman, according to officials.
Khan arrived at the ED office in the morning around 11 am and remained there until midnight. While ED sources mentioned that he was detained for questioning, they clarified that he was not formally arrested.
During Khan's interrogation, AAP MP Sanjay Singh and other party members visited his residence to show support to his family. Atishi, another AAP leader, expressed skepticism regarding the case, labeling it as fabricated news of Khan's arrest.
The 50-year-old legislator's deposition follows the Supreme Court's recent dismissal of his anticipatory bail plea related to the alleged irregularities in the Delhi Waqf Board. The court had instructed him to cooperate with the investigation, with the deadline set for April 18.
Prior to his interrogation, Khan asserted his adherence to regulations during his tenure as the Waqf Board's chairman. He claimed to have acted in accordance with legal advice and within the framework of the new Act governing the board since 2013.
The money laundering allegations against Khan originated from an FIR filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and three complaints lodged by the Delhi Police.
