In a tragic incident on Wednesday evening, a man hailing from Bihar lost his life to a terrorist attack in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials reported.
According to sources, the assailants targeted the victim, identified as Raja Shah from Bihar, in a close-range firing in the Bijbehera locality of Anantnag.
Raja Shah sustained critical injuries to his neck and abdomen as a result of the attack and was rushed to the hospital. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries, as confirmed by an official statement.
Upon receiving the news, police teams swiftly responded by cordoning off the area and initiating search operations to apprehend the perpetrators behind this cowardly act.
Expressing his condolences, Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha condemned the brutal attack, extending sympathies to Raja Shah's family. He affirmed the nation's solidarity in the face of such tragic events and praised the bravery of the J&K Police and security forces in combating terrorism.
Sinha vowed to pursue the terrorists responsible for the attack relentlessly, ensuring they face the consequences of their actions.
Additionally, Sajad Lone, President of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference, denounced the senseless killing of Raja Shah, highlighting the imperative of unity and solidarity in confronting such acts of violence. He stressed the incompatibility of such brutality with the principles of a civilized society.
