ED Accuses CM Kejriwal of Manipulating Diet to Influence Bail: Mangoes and High-Carb Foods in Spotlight

Representing the ED, special counsel Zoheb Hossain highlighted the apparent contradiction in Kejriwal's actions, noting that while he claims to suffer from high sugar levels, he continues to consume items such as mangoes and sweets while incarcerated. Kejriwal, currently in judicial custody until April 23 due to his alleged involvement in the excise policy case, has been accused by the ED of consciously ingesting foods known to spike blood sugar levels, despite being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.

In a recent development presented before the Special Judge Rakesh Syal of the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has put forth an intriguing argument concerning Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's dietary choices while in Tihar Jail. The ED alleges that Kejriwal is intentionally consuming mangoes and other high-carbohydrate foods to elevate his blood sugar levels, purportedly in a strategic move to bolster his case for bail.

According to the ED, Kejriwal's consumption of tea with sugar, bananas, sweets, poori, aloo sabji, and similar items on a regular basis is a deliberate effort to induce a medical emergency, potentially garnering sympathetic treatment from the court on medical grounds. The agency further revealed that the jail authorities have sought guidance from AIIMS to devise a suitable diet plan for the Chief Minister, taking into account his medical condition and ongoing treatment for Type 2 diabetes, chronic constipation, and chronic bronchitis.

However, advocate Vivek Jain, representing Kejriwal, dismissed the ED's allegations as a ploy for media attention, emphasizing that the agency's claims were unsubstantiated. Following a brief hearing, the court requested a medical report from Tihar Jail authorities regarding Kejriwal's dietary regimen and scheduled the matter for further deliberation on Friday.

While the ED's assertions surfaced in court on Thursday, they had already gained traction on social media platforms a day earlier. Netizens, including purported sources within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), speculated that Kejriwal's consumption of high-sugar foods was a calculated move to artificially inflate his blood sugar levels, potentially facilitating his release on bail.

Kejriwal's legal team had previously emphasized his health concerns, citing his diabetic condition upon entering judicial custody. They advocated for his access to regular medical consultations via video conferencing due to fluctuations in his blood sugar levels. In response, the special public prosecutor for the ED, Simon Benjamin, argued that the jail's medical facilities were equipped to address Kejriwal's health needs, suggesting that examinations could be conducted on-site.

Amidst these allegations and counterarguments, the veracity of Kejriwal's dietary choices and their implications for his legal proceedings remain a subject of intense scrutiny and debate. Recent remarks by alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar have added another layer of intrigue, with claims that Kejriwal may not be as ailing as portrayed, but rather indulging in a more luxurious culinary experience behind bars.
