Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to receive the highest national award in Dominica-the "Dominica Award of Honour"-for his crucial support during COVID-19 and commitment towards the strengthening of India-Dominica relations.
A release from the Government of Dominica said President Sylvanie Burton will present the award during the India-CARICOM Summit to be held in Georgetown, Guyana, from 19 to 21 November.
In February 2021, Prime Minister Modi handed over 70,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to Dominica—\"a generous gift which enabled Dominica to extend support to its Caribbean neighbours,\" said the government of Dominica.
The prize also promotes India's help to Dominica with education and information technology issues under the Prime Minister Modi's platform and his initiative across the globe for climate-resilience building and sustainable development. Dominican Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit represented the nation of gratitude by saying, "Prime Minister Modi has been a true partner to Dominica, particularly in our hour of need amid a global health crisis.".
It would be such an honor for me to bestow on him the highest national accolade that Dominica can offer, as a symbol of our gratitude for his support and reflection of the strong ties between our countries. We look forward to continuing building this partnership and advancing our shared vision of progress and resilience. At the hands-over ceremony, PM Modi emphasized the importance of collaboration in the face of global challenges such as climate change, geopolitical conflicts, and confirmed India's commitment to working together with Dominica and the Caribbean region to address all these issues.
The honor is part of PM Modi's diplomatic tour where he will visit Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana. The prime minister will join the Second CARICOM-India Summit in Georgetown, Guyana and will hold one-to-one meetings with the heads of governments of CARICOM member states to further strengthen India's long-standing friendly relationship with the region.
