Veteran film actor Mithun Chakraborty faced an unexpected debacle while canvassing for the BJP candidate in the Nirsa Assembly seat of Dhanbad district on Tuesday. During an election rally somebody apparently snatched his purse, causing ruckus among the crowd.
During the rally, the stage announcer kept making appeals over the microphone asking whoever took the purse to return it. However, all was in vain since the purse wasn't recovered.
Despite the incident, Mithun brought an end to the event before time and left the venue. This incident occurred on Chakraborty's second consecutive day of campaigning in Jharkhand.
On Monday, he had canvassed for BJP candidates in Kolhan; on Tuesday, he himself pleaded for BJP candidate Aparna Sen Gupta in Nirsa.
The rally saw massive crowds. People could even climb up on the roofs and walls to have a glimpse of this actor. While moving through the crowd on his way to the stage, Chakraborty lost his wallet.
Before addressing the rally, Mithun at a press conference revealed that he had come to Jharkhand more due to love for the state and its people, rather than BJP.
"I am here because I want to see Jharkhand prosper on the path of development," he said.
Reminiscing over his affiliation with the state, he commented, "In my first film, I enacted a tribal character called 'Ghinuwa'.I am sure that the tribal people of Jharkhand will ensure the government's formation by the BJP."
Mithun also reacted to the video going viral on social media where Pakistani don Shahzad Bhatti is said to have threatened him over a statement and demanded an apology within 15 days.
Chakraborty outright rejected the demand saying, "I have nothing to apologise for. I have never ever made any statement in my life inciting hatred between Hindus and Muslims. My words have been twisted and misrepresented by the media." The first phase of voting in Jharkhand will take place on Wednesday.
