Delhi Court Rejects CM Kejriwal's Request for Doctor Consultation; Insulin Administration Arranged in Jail

Under the court's directive, if Kejriwal requires specialized medical consultation while in jail, the prison authorities are to engage a medical panel appointed by the Director of AIIMS, Delhi. This panel will oversee Kejriwal's medical needs, including determining his insulin dosage, dietary regimen, and exercise plan.

A recent decision by a Delhi court has denied the plea put forth by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, currently in custody, seeking permission to consult a private doctor daily via video conferencing for his diabetes and fluctuating blood sugar levels. Nonetheless, the court emphasized the necessity of providing adequate medical care to Kejriwal during his time in custody.

In the interim, Kejriwal is permitted to continue consuming home-cooked meals, provided they align with the recommendations of the medical panel, as clarified by the judge.

Kejriwal had petitioned the court last week to instruct jail authorities to administer insulin to him and to allow him to consult his regular doctor via video conferencing, citing a significant drop in his blood sugar levels. He also requested permission for his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, to join the virtual consultation with Dr. Ravichandra Rao.

During the hearing, the investigating agency accused Kejriwal of intentionally consuming high-carbohydrate foods, such as mangoes and sweets, in jail to elevate his blood sugar levels in a bid to bolster his case for bail. However, Kejriwal's legal counsel refuted these allegations, asserting that he cannot risk his health merely to secure bail.

Arvind Kejriwal, arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in connection with an alleged excise policy scam, is currently detained in Jail No. 2 under judicial custody until April 23.
