Kejriwal, arrested on March 21 in connection with an alleged excise policy scam by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), is presently held in Jail No. 2 until April 23 under judicial custody.

On April 18, following claims by AAP leader Atishi that Kejriwal's blood sugar levels rose due to the jail authorities' failure to provide insulin despite requests, L-G Saxena instructed the DG Prisons to submit a detailed report within 24 hours.

The ED informed a Delhi court on the same day that Kejriwal was intentionally consuming high-carbohydrate foods like mangoes to elevate his blood sugar levels in a bid to support his bail plea.

The report submitted to the L-G clarified that Kejriwal had ceased insulin treatment a few months ago after consulting a doctor in Telangana and was only on Metformin, an oral anti-diabetes medication, at the time of his arrest.

It further stated that Kejriwal's health is monitored daily, and he receives all prescribed medications from the jail dispensary. Additionally, his dietary requirements, based on blood sugar levels, were addressed by AIIMS.

The prison administration refuted claims of denying insulin treatment and cited a government circular prohibiting referrals to private hospitals.

The diet plan from AIIMS for Kejriwal strictly prohibits fried foods, sweets, high-sugar fruits, and limits oil consumption to 20 ml per day.

The ED had previously arrested BRS MLC K. Kavitha, daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, in the same case. Allegations suggest a conspiracy involving AAP leaders and others, resulting in kickbacks amounting to Rs 100 crore.
