The suspended AAP legislators, including Leader of Opposition Atishi, were brought out of the Assembly after creating a ruckus by raising slogans of "Jai Bhim" and insisting that portraits of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh be displayed in the Chief Minister's office again. The Chief Minister, however, has denied these claims.
Amongst the 22 AAP MLAs, only the Okhla legislator Amanatullah Khan was spared from suspension because he was present absent in the House on Tuesday.
Subsequently, Speaker Gupta told journalists that AAP members would continue to remain suspended on February 25, 27 and 28.
"Upholding the dignity of the House is of the utmost priority. The AAP MLAs committed unethical acts when the Lieutenant Governor was discharging his constitutional obligation," he added.
Gupta also stated that the CAG report on the excise policy would be referred to the Public Accounts Committee after discussions in the Assembly. He also hinted that more CAG reports could be brought, pushing the session up to March 3.
While moving the vote of thanks to Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena's address, former legislator from Gandhi Nagar and Minister of Delhi Arvinder Singh Lovely called for a special session to debate the CAG report, terming it an "extraordinary situation that calls for unmasking the corruption of the previous government."
Although agreeing that the CAG reports normally go to the Public Accounts Committee, Lovely underscored the gravity of the issue to hold an urgent debate in the Assembly.
Rebuking AAP legislators' protest, he stated, "They are trying to hide themselves behind the portraits of B.R. Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh."
"Did Bhagat Singh ever suggest that a government should be engaged in a school or liquor scam?" Lovely asked, again charging AAP with demeaning Dr. Ambedkar by sidelining constitutional conventions.
"The AAP government undermined Ambedkar by scrapping Question Hour from the Assembly agenda. They denied lawmakers their democratic right to put forth issues of public concern," he added.
The Assembly session began with an address from Lieutenant Governor Saxena, who announced a monthly financial aid of ₹2,500 for women in Delhi.
Additionally, Saxena underscored the ‘Viksit Delhi’ manifesto as the foundation of the new administration, reaffirming its pledge to provide a corruption-free government.
