CPI's Independent Stance: Going Solo in Jharkhand LS Polls

Jharkhand, where the CPI currently lacks representation in the Lower House of Parliament, holds pivotal importance in their electoral strategy.

On Sunday, the Communist Party of India (CPI) made a significant decision to diverge from the opposition alliance INDIA, opting instead to field candidates independently in eight out of the 14 Lok Sabha seats slated for the upcoming elections.

Mahendra Pathak, the CPI's state secretary, revealed the party's stance, stating, "We have resolved to contest the Lok Sabha polls autonomously." Pathak further elaborated on the rationale behind this move, citing the absence of seat-sharing discussions between the Congress, the 'Mahagathbandhan', and the CPI, despite the BJP having already announced its candidates.

This decision was reached during a gathering of the party's state executive committee, underscoring the CPI's commitment to pursue its political objectives independently.

The CPI's electoral ambitions will manifest in various constituencies across Jharkhand, including Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Chatra, Palamu, Giridih, Dumka, and Jamshedpur. However, the identities of the CPI's contenders for these seats will remain undisclosed until after March 16, as Pathak conveyed.

Presently, the political landscape of Jharkhand sees the BJP holding 11 out of the 14 seats, with the AJSU party and JMM securing one each. Notably, the Congress, which held one seat, experienced a setback as its lone MP, Geeta Kora, recently defected to the BJP.
