Inaugural Maha Shivratri Celebrated at BAPS Hindu Temple in Abu Dhabi

Managed by the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS), the temple was inaugurated on February 14 amidst the presence of Hindu saints, including Mahant Swami ji Maharaj, and dignitaries such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The inaugural celebration of Maha Shivratri marked a significant milestone for the first Hindu temple in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), situated in Abu Dhabi. This auspicious occasion, which occurred almost a month after the temple's opening, attracted devotees from across the Gulf region.

On the day of Maha Shivratri, the temple radiated with vibrant hues as thousands of devotees assembled to observe the revered festival. The festivities commenced with prayers dedicated to Lord Shiva and culminated with a 'havan', or sacred fire ritual. Throughout the day, a steady stream of devotees queued outside the temple gates, eagerly seeking 'darshan' of the deity.

Many worshippers expressed awe and admiration for the splendor and architectural marvels of the newly constructed BAPS Hindu temple following their visit.

Maha Shivratri holds immense significance as an annual Hindu festival, revered as the holiest day for worshipping Lord Shiva. Traditionally, devotees collect water from the sacred River Ganga and offer it as homage to the deity on this auspicious occasion.
