Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla emphasized the importance of each pillar of the Constitution working within its defined limits and scope during an orientation program for newly elected MLAs of the Chhattisgarh assembly. Birla highlighted the complementary nature of the legislative, executive, and judiciary branches, emphasizing that effective functioning requires each to respect the boundaries of their authority.
Birla stated that the judiciary has the right to review laws, but a strong legislative pillar can prevent unnecessary interference. He stressed the need for meaningful discussions in the House, encouraging minimum deadlock and promoting dialogue in Parliament or the assembly. Birla expressed his hope that the three pillars will work within their respective jurisdictions, contributing to the overall harmony of the democratic system.
Reflecting on India's successful democracy, Birla attributed its achievements to the strength, high traditions, and conventions that provide guidance to democracies worldwide. He underscored the importance of discussions, dialogues, agreements, and disagreements as integral components of India's democratic traditions.
The Lok Sabha Speaker commended the increasing representation of women in politics, expressing optimism that their numbers will continue to rise with the implementation of reservations. Birla encouraged newly elected MLAs to actively engage in discussions concerning their constituencies and important state issues, fostering collaboration between the ruling party and the opposition for the overall development of the state.
