Chhattisgarh Police have taken action against Congress leader Charandas Mahant for allegedly making derogatory remarks aimed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Confirming the development, CSP (Rajnandgaon) Pushpendra Nayak stated, "An FIR has been lodged against Charandas Mahant following a complaint filed by the district election office. He has been charged under Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code. The investigation is ongoing."
The complaint, which originated from the Chhattisgarh BJP unit, urged local law enforcement to register the FIR against Mahant, who serves as the leader of the opposition in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly.
During a public gathering, Mahant had remarked, "We require someone who can strongly oppose Modi, and only Bhupesh Baghel fits the bill, ready to confront him head-on."
Reacting strongly to Mahant's statement, BJP's state in-charge Nitin Nabin condemned the remarks as "vulgar and inappropriate."
Nabin further emphasized that the people of Chhattisgarh would respond fittingly to any disrespectful comments directed at leaders like PM Modi.
