Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Congress of scheming to tamper with the Constitution during the Emergency and emphasized that the party's fundamental nature remains unchanged. He criticized the opposition for disseminating falsehoods about the Constitution and vowed to safeguard reservations for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes (OBCs).
"Friends, the boat of the INDI Alliance is sinking. They have only one crutch -- lies. They are lying repeatedly. They are spreading lies regarding the Constitution," Modi asserted at a rally.
The Congress has alleged that the BJP's "400 paar" slogan for the Lok Sabha elections aims to alter the Constitution and abolish reservations for marginalized communities. Reacting to these claims, the Prime Minister asked, "Who threatens the Constitution? You tell, who hatched the conspiracy of amending the Constitution by imposing Emergency?"
Referring to the judiciary's intervention during the Emergency, Modi recounted how the Allahabad High Court curbed Congress's authoritarianism and prevented attempts to subvert democracy in Rae Bareli. "Despite the passage of time, the essence of the Congress remains unaltered," he remarked.
Accusing Congress-SP leaders of contemplating reservations based on religious grounds, Modi cited Babasaheb Ambedkar's opposition to such measures. He condemned the Karnataka government's extension of OBC quotas to Muslims and vowed to prevent any encroachment on reservations for Dalits and backward classes nationwide.
Criticism of the previous Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh, Modi rued the exploitation of Prayagraj's education hub and the endemic practice of nepotism and corruption in job quotas. He vowed to restore meritocracy and opportunities to the talents in Uttar Pradesh.
The Allahabad Lok Sabha seat will go to the poll in the sixth phase of the election on May 25. Key contestants include Neeraj Tripathi and Ujjwal Ram Singh.
