Delhi's Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, expressed his admiration for AAP leader Satyendar Jain, labeling him a hero for the residents of the capital city. This acknowledgment came shortly after the Supreme Court declined Jain's request for regular bail in a money-laundering case.
Despite disagreeing respectfully with the Supreme Court's decision, the AAP remained steadfast in its belief in the justice system, expressing confidence that justice would prevail eventually. Highlighting Jain's fragile health condition, the party emphasized his ongoing struggle with pain and the aftermath of major spine surgeries, which have left him with numbness and imbalance, rating his suffering at a severe level.
Adding to Jain's plight, the party noted that his health complications had led to a fall and subsequent fracture. Late Monday, Jain returned to Tihar jail.
In a heartfelt post on a social media platform, Kejriwal lauded Jain's contributions to the city, particularly in ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply, free electricity, and the establishment of quality government hospitals and mohalla clinics. The Chief Minister expressed deep sympathy for Jain and his family, extending blessings to them.
Jain, who previously held the power and health portfolios in the Kejriwal government, resigned from the Cabinet in February the previous year.
The AAP condemned what it termed as the "utterly shameful" actions of the ED-CBI, accusing them of acting at the behest of the BJP to incarcerate Jain for nearly two years in a case it deems as entirely fabricated.
According to the AAP, the case against Jain revolves around allegations from hawala operators regarding financial transactions in three companies associated with Jain's wife. The party stressed the lack of evidence implicating Jain and highlighted his denial of any involvement with these individuals. Instead, it criticized the authorities for neglecting to pursue the hawala operators while targeting Jain.
Moreover, the AAP dismissed the ED's claims regarding Jain's control over the companies in question, asserting that neither he nor his family had any significant ties to them.
Currently undergoing physiotherapy, Jain had sought a delay in surrendering. The party revealed his recent hospitalization, including an incident where he collapsed in Tihar jail's bathroom and was subsequently moved to the intensive care unit.
Having reserved its verdict on Jain's bail plea on January 17, the Supreme Court initially granted him interim bail on medical grounds on May 26, 2023, which was later extended.
Jain had approached the apex court after the Delhi High Court rejected his bail plea in April 2023. The ED had arrested him in May 2022, based on allegations of money laundering through four companies purportedly linked to him, following a CBI FIR filed in 2017 under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
