Calls for President to Disqualify Owaisi Over 'Jai Palestine' Slogan

It is stated in one of the pleas, moved by Supreme Court advocate Alakh Alok Srivastava, that by raising the pro-Palestine slogan 'Jai Palestine' in the Indian Parliament publicly, Owaisi has demonstrated open allegiance to a foreign nation. Under Article 102(d) of the Indian Constitution, Srivastava has said: "any person who acknowledges the allegiance to a foreign state due to any reason shall be disqualified from either House of Parliament"; therefore, the latter must be disqualified with an immediate effect.

Fresh complaints have been lodged before President Droupadi Murmu for immediate disqualification of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, who pledged his support to Palestine while taking oath as the Lok Sabha MP on Tuesday.

The complaint also alleges that Owaisi has been showing allegiance to Palestine since a considerable period of time and, in the event the stringent action is not taken against him, it will科_reports pose a threat to national integrity.

Owaisi, who is not new to controversial statements, sparked a massive uproar in the Lok Sabha after he took the oath by saying "Jai Palestine" along with other slogans after taking oath as Member of Parliament in the 18th Lok Sabha.
