Cabinet to Discuss Caste Census Report, K'taka CM Siddaramaiah

The Kannada Daily: Speaking to media persons here while clarifying the publication of the report of the Kantharaju Commission on caste census, Siddaramaiah said that the report has already been received and would be discussed in the Cabinet itself before a decision is taken.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Saturday that the controversial caste census report has been accepted by the state government, which will be taken up before the Cabinet, and the report is going to be discussed before a decision is arrived at.

The Kannada Daily: Speaking to media persons here while clarifying the publication of the report of the Kantharaju Commission on caste census, Siddaramaiah said that the report has already been received and would be discussed in the Cabinet itself before a decision is taken.
"If there are errors of a minute nature in this report, these would be corrected after perusal and scrutiny," he said.

As far as the caste census is concerned, the Supreme Court has already passed an order regarding internal reservations, and the government has not opposed the same.

However, the caste census report will also be discussed with the Congress high command and in the Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah added.

"We have to discuss the matter with the party high command as it is a national issue," he said.

At the "Karnataka Sambhrama", Chief Minister spoken so that he was taking part in the observation of the golden jubilee of naming the state after Karnataka, a decision taken by the then Chief Minister late Devaraj Urs back in 1973.

"In 1973 the state was named as Karnataka. Fifty years have passed since the state was named Karnataka. This is its 51st year. On November 1, we-the government-will hold a concluding ceremony. To mark the occasion, we are building a Bhuvaneshwari statue before the Vidhana Soudha," he said.

To commemorate the day, as part of the Gokak movement initiated to make Kannada the official language in the state and to rename the state as Karnataka, the event is being organized jointly with the Department of Kannada and Culture, the Kannada Development Authority, Siddaramaiah said.
Talking to reporters on the 'Swabhimani Samavesha', the Chief Minister described it as a meet of self-respect for the backward classes, underprivileged, and minority communities.
