Bommai Requests NIA Investigation into Siddaramaiah's Appearance on Stage with Alleged IS-Linked Cleric

Addressing reporters on Thursday, Bommai highlighted the existence of filed cases against the said cleric for delivering provocative speeches in Vijayapura.

Former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has urged for a thorough investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the concerning episode involving Chief Minister Siddaramaiah sharing a platform with a cleric allegedly associated with the terror group, the Islamic State (IS).

Addressing reporters on Thursday, Bommai highlighted the existence of filed cases against the said cleric for delivering provocative speeches in Vijayapura. BJP legislator Basangouda Patil Yatnal has further asserted connections between the cleric and IS.

Expressing concern, Bommai stated, "The CM's attempt to downplay this issue is misleading. It is crucial for the government to refer this matter to the NIA for a comprehensive inquiry."

The former CM emphasized that the Congress had initially treated the pressure cooker bomb blast incident lightly. However, recent revelations indicated that several among the accused were allegedly involved in anti-national activities, shedding new light on the severity of the situation.
