The BJP has officially announced Manan Mishra as their candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election.
Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Samrat Choudhary, has confirmed this development and sent out his best wishes to Mishra.
The party's MLC and chief spokesperson, Sanjay Mayukh, issued the official candidate list featuring Manan Mishra as the BJP's nominee from Bihar.
Mishra is a senior advocate from Patna and a native of Gopalganj district. He was picked after the central leadership sifted through more than 35 probable candidates from Bihar. The list included high-profile candidates, including Rituraj Sinha, Prem Ranjan Patel, Arvind Kumar Singh, Nikhil Anand, and former Union Minister RK Singh.
Mishra's choice has surprised many within the BJP unit in Bihar.
The decisions were taken after deliberations which took place in New Delhi in the presence of top BJP leaders, including Samrat Choudhary, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, and BJP state president Dilip Jaiswal.
Mishra enriched with a law degree from Patna University as a gold medalist and started practicing in the year 1982. Today, he is regarded as one of the senior advocates at the Patna High Court. He has been a long-time supporter of BJP and president of the Bar Council, having deep roots in RSS.
The NDA had already selected Upendra Kushwaha as another candidate for the Rajya Sabha.
These two Rajya Sabha seats from Bihar fell vacant owing to the resignation by Misa Bharti of the RJD and Vivek Thakur of the BJP, who were elected as MPs in the recent Lok Sabha elections from Patliputra and Nawada, respectively.
