BJP Claims Champai Soren’s Departure Will Mark the End for JMM

The maverick Dalit leader and former Chief Minister, erstwhile a lone ranger, was welcomed by the BJP State Spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo, who severely criticized the JMM for having humiliated Soren to a huge extent while being in office: first, for being compelled to demit office even while holding the highest office of the State, and then sending the state's legislature meeting without even informing him.

Jharkhand BJP on Tuesday said the expected joining of former Chief Minister Champai Soren into their party was a feather in their cap but at the same time a "severe jolt" to the JMM.

Shah Deo said Soren was demeaned on many counts by not being allowed to attend even official functions and termed it as a major humiliation. He exuded confidence that the decision of Soren to join the BJP would further weaken the JMM, saying Soren is considered the 'Kolhan Tiger' and is no less than a giant in the Kolhan region.

Shah Deo added that Soren would officially join the BJP on August 30 in Ranchi, which he articulated would further concrete the party.

Champai Soren recently met with Home Minister Amit Shah, finalizing his shift to a new political chapter. He had said earlier that a decision on his political future would be taken within a week, weighing options between forming a new organization or aligning with a suitable partner.

Soren, who was Chief Minister for only five months-once he quit after the release of Hemant Soren on bail-had in the recent past expressed his discontent with the JMM also. Writing on August 18, he had listed the "affronts and insults" he suffered at the hands of the party, stating an episode that he claimed forced him to rethink his future with the party.

In one of the Facebook posts, Soren vented his anger against his sidelining and humiliation within the party, which forced him to resign. He has said decisions were taken without his knowledge, whereas he was asked to quit by those not competent to take a decision to that effect disturbing and disheartening him. Soren contended he suffered a severe jolt to self-respect despite all his sincerities and dedications towards JMM.
