A delegation of the Jharkhand BJP, led by its state unit president and former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi, met the Chief Election Commissioner here on Wednesday. It also submitted a survey report pointing out a massive increase in the number of Muslim voters and demanded an inquiry into the matter.

The Jharkhand unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has expressed its concern over the perceptible rise in the Muslim population of voters in Santhal Pargana and other areas, due to possible infiltration from Bangladesh. The party said this might be the reason for the changing demographic profile of the State.

The other people present in the audience with the CEC included the Leader of the Opposition in Jharkhand Assembly, Amar Kumar Bauri, and the Rajya Sabha MP, Aditya Sahu.

Further, Marandi disclosed that the 500-page survey report revealed an abnormal rise in the number of Muslim voters, which needs an investigation of proper nature. He suspected that there has been document misuse for the creation of bogus voter ID cards.

He said that an increase in the number of voters by 15-20 percent over five years is quite normal, with some increases at particular polling booths as high as 136 percent. Sharp voter increases were noted in Rajmahal, Berhait, Pakur, Maheshpur, Jamtara, Madhupur, Majhgaon, Hatia, Bishunpur, and Lohardaga Assembly constituencies.

The memorandum presented before the Election Commission warned that investigation may expose a conspiracy to alter Jharkhand's demography.
