Sources close to Vijay suggest that he is indeed contemplating a foray into Tamil Nadu politics and may announce his political party before the 2026 Assembly elections.
Vijay's fan association, All India Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyyakam (AITVMI), had contested in the local body polls of October 2021, winning a substantial number of seats. Although Vijay has not finalized an alliance with the BJP, there are indications that the party's national leadership is exploring a clandestine arrangement in certain constituencies.
Political analyst C Rajeev believes that an alliance between Vijay and the BJP could be formidable, given Vijay's substantial fan base in Tamil Nadu. Despite past conflicts between Vijay and the BJP, an alliance is not ruled out, and the BJP could leverage Vijay's popularity to gain traction in the state.
While the BJP's state unit is striving to establish a presence in Tamil Nadu, an alliance with Vijay could significantly boost the party's prospects in the 2024 general elections. Vijay, eyeing the 2026 Assembly elections, reportedly aims to become the Chief Minister, a prospect that the BJP is reportedly willing to support.
The political landscape in Tamil Nadu has historically been intertwined with the film industry, and the potential alliance between Vijay and the BJP could usher in alternative politics in the state. With the BJP seeking to expand its influence, Vijay's popularity could serve as a crucial asset in the upcoming elections.
