The PMK, a prominent political entity representing the Vanniyar community, disclosed on Tuesday its collaborative agreement with the BJP-led NDA, intending to vie for ten Lok Sabha seats.
This decision was solidified during a gathering convened at the rural residence of PMK's founding figure, Dr. S. Ramadoss, situated in Tindivanam, Chennai, amidst the morning hours of Tuesday.
In a ceremonious event, the accord was officially ratified by PMK's State head, Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss, and BJP's state chief, K. Annamalai, in the esteemed presence of Dr. S. Ramadoss, the patriarch of PMK, and Union Minister of State for Fisheries, L. Murugan.
While both the BJP and AIADMK had vigorously pursued the support and coalition of the PMK, ultimately, the Vanniyar party opted to align itself with the BJP.
With a formidable voter base of at least 7 per cent in Tamil Nadu, predominantly concentrated in the northern districts, the PMK, under the guidance of its founder, Dr. S. Ramadoss, initially inclined towards an alliance with the AIADMK. Notably, several key figures within the party, including its former state president, G.K. Mani, advocated for an AIADMK partnership.
Nevertheless, swayed by the vision of party's state president, Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss, the PMK leadership embraced the prospect of aligning with the BJP, foreseeing substantial gains for the NDA's foothold in Tamil Nadu.
