Karpoori Thakur, a socialist icon, was chosen for the Bharat Ratna on the day of his 100th birth anniversary. The decision was met with appreciation and gratitude from Thakur's family, political leaders, and the people of Bihar. His elder son, JD(U) Rajya Sabha MP Ramnath Thakur, expressed thanks to the central government on behalf of the party, himself, and the people of Bihar.
The state government planned various events throughout the day to celebrate the legacy of Karpoori Thakur. The decision to confer the Bharat Ratna on Thakur was welcomed by senior JD(U) leader Neeraj Kumar, who noted that it came after repeated requests by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The recognition is expected to inspire the youth to embrace Thakur's ideals.
