The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday revealed that Bengali Hindus had confronted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during her address at Kellogg College in London, asking her questions regarding her leadership and governance.
BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya, on X, claimed that CM Banerjee had to endure verbal protests from Bengali Hindus who shouted slogans charging her with failing to act on crimes like the rape and killing of a lady doctor at RG Kar, assaults on women at Sandeshkhali, the alleged persecution of Hindus, and rampant corruption.
"These were only some of the posters plastered in protest against Mamata Banerjee," Malviya penned, adding further, "She has insulted West Bengal. The Hindu Bengali diaspora no longer desires her as Chief Minister for diluting the state's heritage and humiliating them."
The disturbance took place on Thursday while Mamata Banerjee was speaking at Kellogg College, Oxford University, when a section of students and others in the audience tried to disrupt her speech by raising questions against her.
Demonstrators raised placards and questioned her on several issues. At one stage, someone from the audience asked her point-blank, "Mamata ji, anyone for Hindus?"
To this, she replied, "I am for all, Hindus and Muslims."
A part of the crowd also shouted "Go back" slogans, adding to the tension.
Reacting to the incident, Malviya said, "Mamata Banerjee, who is normally aggressive behind the cover of the West Bengal Police, seemed subdued when confronted by angry Hindu Bengalis at Kellogg College. They criticized her for the persecution of Hindus and the increasing instances of crimes against women, including those at RG Kar and Sandeshkhali."
He further added that if the 2026 West Bengal elections were held free and fair, she would lose.
"The abuse of state machinery, especially the police force, which operates as TMC's extended cadre, needs to stop. Without it, she will collapse like any frail autocrat," Malviya added.
Furthermore, the Students Federation of India-UK (SFI-UK) went to X, alleging that their activists organised a protest at Kellogg College against Banerjee's address.
"Instead of challenging her baseless assertions by seeking evidence of the social advances she claims to have achieved, the police were summoned," the SFI-UK post stated. The organization also took issue with the college administration for "giving a platform to someone who in their opinion has condoned cases of sexual violence and put profits ahead of people."
