Assam Govt Orders FIR Against Foreign National Ali Sheikh Over Gaurav Gogoi's Pakistan Links

This relationship has also sparked concerns regarding possible connections between Pakistan and the Congress leader. The decision came in a Sunday Cabinet meeting headed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The Assam government has decided to register a police case against Pakistani national Ali Sheikh, who had close professional ties with Elizabeth Gogoi, the wife of Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi. This relationship has also sparked concerns regarding possible connections between Pakistan and the Congress leader.

The decision came in a Sunday Cabinet meeting headed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Chief Minister Sarma told reporters here, "Ali Sheikh served in Pakistan in various positions in committees formed by the Pakistani government. It appears that Sheikh has been in contact with Elizabeth Gogoi, a British national and wife of MP from Assam Gaurav Gogoi. Elizabeth, a British national worked with Sheikh."

The CM said, "Given broader national security concerns, the Cabinet has directed the Director General of Police to register a case against Ali Tauqeer Shiekh and investigate a deep ecosystem."

He also said that when Elizabeth was going to marry Gaurav Gogoi, the son of then Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, she used to visit the Chief Minister's house without any restrictions. The probe will also investigate this aspect.

The Chief Minister also noted that Elizabeth, being a British citizen, had taken part in India's electoral process. The state government is going to bring this issue to the notice of the Union government.

CM Sarma also said, "Historically Assam is a hotbed for ISI and other terrorist organisations that were active in Bangladesh and Pakistan."

In a series of tweets on X, Chief Minister Sarma increased his attack on Gaurav Gogoi, accusing him of having associations that can risk national security.

The accusations revolve around Elizabeth Colbourn, a citizen of the UK, and her long history of work with institutions that are believed to be connected with Pakistani intelligence services.

CM Sarma claims that even after being married to Gogoi for 12 years, Elizabeth retained her UK citizenship and enjoyed close relationships with people associated with the ISI.

He questioned why, even after being married to an Indian national for 12 years, Elizabeth has still not taken Indian citizenship.

Gaurav Gogoi, in turn, vehemently refuted the allegations, calling them part of a pre-election smear campaign for Assam's 2026 polls. He dismissed the implication of his wife being connected to ISI as "absurd" and said the charges were politically motivated.
