Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has stated that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, against whom an FIR has been registered for instigating violence during the party's 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,' will be arrested after the Lok Sabha elections. The FIR was registered by Assam police, accusing Rahul Gandhi and other leaders of "wanton acts of violence" during the Yatra in Guwahati.
Sarma, speaking on the matter, mentioned that the FIR has been filed, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will conduct the investigation. He added that Rahul Gandhi is expected to be arrested after the Lok Sabha elections, which are due in a few months.
Director General of Police G P Singh stated that the case has been transferred to the Assam CID for a thorough investigation through an SIT, to be constituted by the Additional Director General of Police (CID).
The FIR against Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders includes charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), such as criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, rioting, assault on public servants, damaging public property, among others. The charges stem from an incident during the Yatra when Rahul Gandhi allegedly provoked the crowd to break barricades, leading to a scuffle with the police and injuries to some senior Congress leaders and police personnel.
