Arvind Kejriwal's Plea for Increased Legal Consultations in Delhi Court

Recently, the court had remanded Kejriwal to judicial custody until April 15 in connection with a money laundering case linked to an alleged excise policy scam. In his plea, Kejriwal had requested access to three books—Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana, and How Prime Ministers Decide.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has petitioned a Delhi court for an extension to spend additional time with his legal counsel to adequately prepare for the numerous cases filed against him across the country.

Recently, the court had remanded Kejriwal to judicial custody until April 15 in connection with a money laundering case linked to an alleged excise policy scam. In his plea, Kejriwal had requested access to three books—Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana, and How Prime Ministers Decide.

Now, Kejriwal has submitted a fresh application stating that the two weekly meetings allowed by the court with his lawyer are insufficient given the multitude of cases he faces across various states. He asserts the need for more consultation time and is requesting an increase in the number of permitted meetings to five per week.

This application is expected to be heard before Special Judge Kaveri Baweja of the Rouse Avenue Court on Friday.

During his appearance on Monday, the Chief Minister was heavily guarded, and virtual submissions were made by counsels representing both the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Kejriwal. Senior advocates Vikram Chaudhary and Ramesh Gupta represented Kejriwal, while Additional Solicitor General (ASG) S.V. Raju represented the ED.

Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 after a prolonged interrogation at his official residence in Delhi. The ED has labeled him as the "kingpin and the key conspirator" of the alleged excise scam, purportedly involving collusion with other Delhi government ministers, AAP leaders, and other individuals.
