The hardcore pro-Khalistani separatist, the newly elected Member of Parliament, has been granted parole from his detention under National Security Act in jail of Dibrugarh in Assam. He will be sworn in beside Engineer Rashid, another MP-elect, now behind bars, on July 5.
Faridkot MP Sarabjit Singh Khalsa confirmed Speaker Om Birla has agreed to administer the oath of Amritpal Singh in his Parliament chamber. These two MPs have recently been elected as Independents in April this year in the Lok Sabha Elections.
Parole granted to Amritpal Singh was made specifically for the four days starting from July 5 by the Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar for the oath-taking ceremony to be made as a Cabinet minister. Official sources said parole had been granted to ensure flexibility in case of some weather-related alteration in the travel plans.
This decision passed as a position to let Amritpal Singh take his oath after the National Investigation Agency consented to the pledge taking of Rashid, in detention in Tihar Jail in Delhi and an MP, the same day. The MP from Jammu and Kashmir of the Baramulla constituency trumped Omar Abdullah by a good margin.
While being attached with 'Waris Punjab De' and now behind bars in Assam, Amritpal Singh defeated Congress nominee Kulbir Singh Zira from the Khadoor Sahib seat. Similarly, based on issues in the Faridkot constituency, Sarabjit Singh Khalsa trounced the AAP candidate, Karamjit Singh Anmol.
