Amit Shah Vows to Eradicate Left-Wing Extremism by March 2026

"The time has come for the final assault on Left Wing Extremism," the Home Minister said here in Chhattisgarh Saturday during a press conference called at the end of a key security meeting on anti-Maoist operations.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance government "will completely eliminate Left Wing Extremism from the country by March 2026."

"The time has come for the final assault on Left Wing Extremism," the Home Minister said here in Chhattisgarh Saturday during a press conference called at the end of a key security meeting on anti-Maoist operations.

He said that the campaign against Left Wing Extremism needs to be further hiked. He said, "We now need to work at double the speed and intensity that was there in the beginning of the operations against Naxalism; only then can this problem be completely eradicated from our country."

He insisted on blocking the financing and weapons supply to the Maoists. It was in deliberation in a review meeting on LWE and inter-state coordination, in Nava Raipur. The meet gathered the senior officials of the seven police heads of the states affected by Maoists.

The meetings deliberated the action plan to address the challenges of LWE, improving inter-state coordination, augmenting the capacity of the security forces, speedy investigation, and prosecution of Maoist cases, and holistic development in the areas affected by Left Wing Extremism.

Shah asked the Chief Secretaries of the Maoist-affected states to review fortnightly the development works in LWE-affected areas. He also emphasized that anti-Maoist operations need continuous monitoring to get desired results.

He also said the policy of surrender for Maoists has to be flexible, but it has to be managed with great caution so that it is not misused. Shah further urged the states to transfer the investigation of all inter-state cases pertaining to Naxalism to NIA.

"We will have to fight the elements that are supporting the ideology of Leftist extremism and convey our views to all sections of society with humility and firmness," Shah said.

Participating in the meeting were Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai, along with Chhattisgarh Chief Secretary and DGP, Jharkhand Chief Secretary and DGP, Odisha Chief Secretary and DGP, Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary and DGP, Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary and DGP, Telangana Chief Secretary and DGP, and Maharashtra Chief Secretary and DGP. Officials from the central government participating in the meeting included Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director, NIA Director, DG, CRPF, BSF, SSB, and ITBP.
