West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose reached Delhi on Tuesday and is learnt to have scheduled a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to present a report on the situation in the state following the rape and murder of a woman doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital earlier this month.
The political observers believe that with the Governor having expressed his displeasure over the state government's handling of the case after meeting the protesting medical students and junior doctors at R.G. Kar, his report to the Union Home Ministry is going to embarrass the state government and the ruling Trinamool Congress more.
The Trinamool Congress leadership is also apprehensive about the report. Party leader Kunal Ghosh claimed that the Governor is under pressure from the Union government to prepare and submit such a report to trouble the democratically elected State government.
State BJP leaders have recently called for central intervention in the R.G. Kar matter amid statewide protests.
On August 15, the Governor visited R.G. Kar Hospital and assured the protesting doctors and medical students of justice. "Whatever happened at R.G. Kar during the last few days is a blot in the name of humanity. I will not tolerate such things at any cost. The demands of the protesting doctors are just that the real culprits should be nabbed and punished. Students are the future of the country.". "They should be given proper hearing," the Governor said.
He also pointed out that the preservation of the rule of law is the responsibility of the State Government and called for unity for the sake of the safety of women.
There have been massive protests in West Bengal and strike by doctors across the country over the case and allegations of botched probe and a cover-up.
