Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the decision to confer the Bharat Ratna on former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur, emphasizing its significance for millions of underprivileged individuals from backward and Dalit communities. Shah highlighted the Modi government's commitment to the development of Other Backward Classes (OBCs), citing the appointment of 27 ministers from OBC communities in the current government.
Speaking at the birth centenary celebration of Karpoori Thakur, Shah outlined various initiatives undertaken by the Modi government to uplift OBCs. This includes the revision of the OBC list, granting states the authority to create their own OBC lists, providing OBC reservations in prestigious institutions like IITs and IIMs, and allocating petrol pumps under OBC quotas.
Shah connected the announcement of the Bharat Ratna for Thakur to significant recent events, such as the consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, portraying them as moments of historical and symbolic importance. He commended Thakur's efforts in promoting Hindi in administration and academics, aligning them with the Modi government's promotion of local languages under the New Education Policy.
Emphasizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to the welfare of the poor and backward classes, Shah listed various initiatives, including providing electricity connections, free LPG connections, piped water, free food grains, healthcare facilities, and constructing toilets. Shah concluded that these efforts reflect Modi's dedication to working for the betterment of the underprivileged and downtrodden sections of society.
