AAP's Delhi Strategy: Kejriwal's Party Seeks 6 Lok Sabha Seats Amid Seat-Sharing Tensions with Congress

AAP, highlighting Congress's previous electoral performance in Delhi, contended that Congress should not expect more than one seat. Sandeep Pathak, AAP's national general secretary (organisation), lamented the lack of communication from Congress despite two official meetings held earlier in January.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) expressed its intention to contest six seats in Delhi for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, reserving just one for the Congress party. Arvinder Singh Lovely, Delhi Congress chief, emphasized the need for substantive discussions rather than decisions made through press conferences.

Despite their alliance in the past, both AAP and Congress have decided to go solo in Punjab for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls due to opposition from their state leaders. Pathak expressed disappointment over the delay in seat-sharing talks, stressing that they have waited patiently for over a month.

Presenting AAP's proposed seat-sharing arrangement, Pathak stated their plan to contest six out of seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi and offer one to Congress. Despite Congress's minimal representation in the Lok Sabha and assembly, Pathak emphasized their adherence to the alliance principle by offering them one seat.

In the absence of fruitful discussions, Pathak warned of announcing AAP's candidates for the Delhi seats in the coming days. The BJP, having won all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi in the 2014 and 2019 elections, remains a formidable opponent.

Referring to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Lovely highlighted Congress's second-place finish in five seats and stressed the party's preparedness for the upcoming polls. He refrained from commenting on individual leaders but emphasized Congress's extensive engagement across all seven Lok Sabha constituencies in Delhi.
