In the 35-member Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, the BJP currently holds 14 seats, along with an ex-officio member MP with voting rights. The AAP has 13 councillors, the Congress has seven, and the Shiromani Akali Dal has one councillor.

The elections for the mayor, senior deputy mayor, and deputy mayor positions are scheduled for Thursday. In the past two years, the Congress abstained from voting, leading to the BJP's victory in the mayoral polls. This year, the mayor's seat has been reserved for the Scheduled Caste (SC) category.
