In the wake of the sudden demise of actress Shefali Jariwala, a controversy has been raised on the consumption of anti-ageing supplements. Commenting on this issue, Yoga guru Baba Ramdev said in an interview to NDTV on Tuesday that the human body is inherently designed to live not only 100 years—but even 150 or 200 years.
Jariwala, who died last Friday at 42 reportedly due to a suspected cardiac arrest, was said to be taking anti-ageing drugs regularly, sources said.
"The natural span of a human being is not 100 years. The natural span of a human being is a minimum of 150-200 years. But we have loaded it so much, on our brain, our heart, our eyes, and our liver," Ramdev said in the interview.
He then condemned modern consumption habits, averring that individuals these days are killing their bodies early by living beyond them.
"You do not know how to handle yourself. If you continue to perform well, then it is a fact that you will not become old for 100 years," he declared, highlighting the need for diet and daily habits discipline.
Ramdev referred to his own way of life as an example of how proper maintenance leads to long-term health and vigor.
"I am more than 60 years old now, but because of yoga, diet, behaviour and proper lifestyle, I am healthy, fit and full of energy," he observed.
When questioned regarding the recent and untimely demise of Shefali Jariwala and TV actor Sidharth Shukla—who also died of a heart attack in 2021 at a mere 40 years of age—Ramdev intimated that the problem wasn't external beauty but inner wellness.
"The equipment was okay, the program was defective. The signs were okay, the system was defective," he noted, calling for inner strength and tenacity.
"There is a difference in this external appearance. Looking like one and being one are not the same," he continued.
He further contended that it can be slowed down to an extent to reverse the process of ageing by living according to natural laws.
"You must be totally content in life. Your food, diet, mind and the composition of your physical body have to be proper," Ramdev said. "Each cell in our body has a natural lifespan. When you tamper with that, it happens like disasters inside the body, leading to things like heart attacks," he explained.
Ramdev finished by saying that remaining linked to one's "original DNA" was the key to long-term health.
At the same time, police officers conducting inquiries into Shefali Jariwala's death claimed to have found two boxes of medications at her home, indicating that the actress could have been self-medicating.
Popularly remembered for her debut in the chartbuster music video Kaanta Laga, Jariwala's death has raised grave eyebrows about the uncontrolled consumption of supplements and medicines, most notably those that profess anti-ageing advantages.
