US Vice President J.D. Vance and his wife Usha were greeted warmly as they landed in New Delhi on Monday morning.
The Vances were received at the airport by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
The Vances will also visit Jaipur and Agra, apart from Delhi, during their four-day India visit.
In the evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host a dinner for the Vances, after meetings with the U.S. Vice President.
This is Vance's maiden visit to India, coming just weeks after U.S. President Donald Trump imposed, and then suspended, a blanket tariff regime on about 60 nations, including India.
With the two countries conducting continuous talks, negotiations are also being conducted in order to finalize a bilateral trade agreement that is intended to address a number of issues, including tariffs and market access.
