Mamata Banerjee had accused the BJP-led central government of deactivating Aadhaar cards in West Bengal ahead of the Lok Sabha polls to hinder access to social welfare schemes. She vowed to continue state-run welfare programs regardless of Aadhaar status, reassuring beneficiaries of continued support.

UIDAI's statement comes amidst allegations that Aadhaar cards of individuals in various districts of West Bengal, including Purba Bardhaman and Birbhum, were deactivated to prevent them from availing benefits like bank transfers and free rations. Mamata Banerjee promised to safeguard citizens' interests, ensuring access to welfare schemes irrespective of Aadhaar status.
