Thackeray can be seen taking multiple jibes at Yogi during a Shiv Sena rally and says that he sits at the Chief Minister's chair and calls himself a yogi. He said that Yogi wore chappals while garlanding Shivaji which was dis-respective and that he had felt like “hitting Yogi with the same chappal.”

"How can he be a Chief Minister? He is a yogi so he should give up everything and sit in a cave - he sits in the chief minister's chair and calls himself a yogi. He has to understand the ties between UP and Maharashtra. A priest from UP, Gagabhatt, came for Shivaji's coronation. And this Yogi came like a balloon filled with air. He wore chappals (slippers) while garlanding Shivaji. I felt like hitting him with the same chappal. Who are you to even stand before a statue of Maharaj?" Mr. Thackeray had said.

After the video resurfaced, many people called out Thackeray while calling him a “hypocrite.” Some BJP supporters even asked Yogi to file a case against the Maharashtra CM.

This situation has been blowing out ever since Union Minister and BJP leader Narayan Rane made a controversial comment in which he said Uddhav Thackeray had forgotten the year of independence and that he had felt like “slapping” him.

"It is shameful that the Chief Minister does not know the year of independence. He leaned back to ask about the count of years of independence during his speech. Had I been there, I would have given him a tight slap," Mr. Rane had said, igniting a huge row and a Shiv Sena protest.

Soon, a major political battle brewed between Shiv Sena and the BJP in Maharashtra. Rane was subsequently arrested by the police after Shiv Sena filed a complaint against him for his statement. This was the first time ever a sitting Union Minister was arrested. However, he was released on bail in Raigad.
