Security Scare at Israel Embassy: Delhi Police Teams Scour Area for Further Evidence Collection

Following an emergency call reporting an 'explosion' near the Israel Embassy in Chanakyapuri on Tuesday, security agencies in Delhi went into action.

The Delhi Police, along with forensic science laboratory teams and the dog squad, conducted a thorough examination of the area surrounding the reported explosion near the Israel Embassy to gather evidence, as confirmed by an official on Wednesday. Central agencies, including the National Investigation Agency (NIA), were also present, accompanied by heavy police deployment.

Subsequently, an extensive search operation led to the discovery of potential evidentiary items, notably a typed letter addressed to the Israeli Ambassador to India.

The Delhi Police released a statement mentioning that they received a PCR call at 5:53 p.m. on Tuesday reporting a "loud sound" from the rear side of the Israel Embassy. Responding to the sensitivity of the site and the nature of the reported sound resembling an explosion, various units of the Delhi Police, including the dog squad, crime team, and bomb disposal squad, were dispatched to the location.

A Delhi Police spokesperson highlighted the arrival of experts from the forensic science laboratory (FSL) at the scene. The area was cordoned off for a detailed search, during which potential evidentiary items were collected for forensic analysis.

Concurrently, the Israel Embassy acknowledged the incident, confirming that an 'explosion' occurred near the Embassy building. The Embassy assured the safety of all its staff and diplomats present during the incident.

Ohad Nakash Kaynar, the Deputy Chief of Mission of Israel to India, conveyed in a video statement, "This evening, several minutes after 5 p.m., an explosion occurred in close proximity to the Embassy. All our workers and diplomats are safe. Our security teams are working in full cooperation with the local security forces, and they will investigate the matter."
