During an engaging session titled ‘Why Bharat Matters: Opportunity for youth and participation in global scenario’, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar highlighted a significant shift in India's foreign policy since 2014, particularly in its approach to combating terrorism.
Reflecting on India's relationships with neighboring nations, Jaishankar pointed out the challenges posed by Pakistan, attributing the complexities to historical events such as the incursion of tribal invaders into Kashmir in 1947. He emphasized that India's response to terrorism has evolved over time, noting the importance of unequivocally identifying Pakistan's involvement in fostering terrorism.
Jaishankar underscored the non-negotiable stance against terrorism, emphasizing that it cannot be tolerated under any circumstances. Regarding the continuity in India's foreign policy, he acknowledged a balance between continuity and change, with a significant shift in addressing terrorism post-events like the Mumbai attack of 26/11.
Highlighting the need for proactive measures against terrorism, Jaishankar emphasized that terrorists should not perceive themselves as beyond repercussions due to their geographical location. He stressed the necessity for a flexible and robust response to terrorism, emphasizing that terrorists operate outside the bounds of conventional norms and, therefore, necessitate a response that is equally dynamic.
