PM Modi lays foundation stone for new Parliament building | 10 Points

The existing parliament building was built during the British Era and was designed by Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker. It took six years for the existing building to be completed and the opening ceremony was performed on January 18, 1927.

PM Narendra Modi on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the New Parliament house that is being built under the Central Vista Project. "This is the very place where our leaders first sat after getting Independence. This was the very place where Babasaheb Ambedkar and his colleagues sat, worked-upon, and gave this country its Constitution," said PM Modi while addressing the gathering. The Supreme Court (SC) of India had earlier halted the project as there are around 10 pending petitions that are challenging the mega re-development project. The SC finally allowed the groundbreaking ceremony on conditions that there would be no paperwork or construction.

On Thursday the foundation stone was laid at the construction site for the new Parliament.
