Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday exhorted officer trainees of the Indian Foreign Service to wear the country's culture with "pride and dignity" and to showcase it during their postings abroad, the Prime Minister's Office said in a statement. He also asked them to increasingly expand their engagement with the Indian diaspora.
These remarks were made when officer-trainees of the 2023 IFS batch called on him at his official residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, comprising 36 officers from 15 states and Union Territories. As the trainees expounded upon the success of foreign policy under the leadership of the Prime Minister and implored his guidance ahead of their respective assignments, PM Modi asked the trainees to "always carry with them the culture of the country with pride and dignity and try to showcase it wherever they are posted." He underscores overcoming the colonial mindset in all walks of life and instead asked them to carry themselves as proud representatives of the country.
He further explained the changing perception of the world towards India and said, "Now we engage with the world on equal terms, with mutual respect and dignity," it read. He also made a reference to the way India handled the Covid pandemic compared to other countries and proudly mentioned the country's movement toward becoming the third-largest economy in the world. He also advocated that officer-trainees, upon being posted abroad, should increase interaction with the Indian diaspora, it further added.
