PM Modi likely to visit US in last week of September, hold first in-person meeting with Joe Biden

This will be the first official visit of PM Modi to the USA after Joe Biden got elected as the President back in 2020. PM Modi will visit Washington DC, where he would hold a bilateral meeting with Joe Biden. According to news agency ANI, the preparations for Modi’s US visit are already underway.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit the United States of America during the last week of September and meet US President Joe Biden, the Indian Express reported quoting government sources.

This will be the first official visit of PM Modi to the USA after Joe Biden got elected as the President back in 2020. PM Modi will visit Washington DC, where he would hold a bilateral meeting with Joe Biden. According to news agency ANI, the preparations for Modi’s US visit are already underway.

The bilateral dialogue between both nations is significant in the backdrop of the Afghanistan situation. Besides meeting Biden, he is expected to have important meetings with the top echelons of the US administration.

Earlier, PM Modi was supposed to visit the UK for the G7 meet, however, that had to be canceled due to the second wave of Covid-19 in India.

PM Modi visited the US back in 2019 during the Howdy Modi event when Donald Trump was the President. Following the defeat of Trump, Modi now looks to make contact with the Democratic Party, which took the office in 2020.

However, the Democrats have been very vocal about the human rights situation in Jammu and Kashmir. It will be intriguing to witness how the entire dialogue pans out.

On the strategic front, both the nations would follow up on the Indo-Pacific issue as China continues to challenge the territories it surrounds. An in-person meeting for the Quad leaders’ summit is also being planned around the same time as Modi’s visit.

In a bid to give shape to the PM’s agenda, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla has met top Biden administration officials in Washington DC, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Deputy Secretary Wendy Sherman, and held substantive discussions with them on the strategic bilateral ties and regional and global issues like the current situation in Afghanistan.
