Sources said that the soldiers noticed some movement of terrorists on the LoC which triggered the firing between the terrorists and the troops. The operation is still on and details are awaited.
Attempts at infiltration by terrorists who have been aided by the Pakistani Army have been a regular feature in Jammu and Kashmir in the recent past.

On July 18, earlier this month, the Army foiled an infiltration attempt in the Keran sector of Kupwara District, killing two terrorists. On July 24, the forces foiled another infiltration bid in the Battal sector of Krishna Ghati area in Poonch District, wherein one terrorist and one Army soldier lost their lives.

It is not known whether Tuesday's firing was related to any infiltration bid or other activity by militants from across the LoC.

These infiltration bids are taking place in the backdrop of recent militant ambushes in the hilly districts of Jammu division during the past two months.

Reports have surfaced regarding the activity of 40-50 foreign mercenaries in hilly areas of Jammu division. This increased activity is seen as a part of the intensified efforts on part of the enemies of peace in Jammu and Kashmir based in the Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir to jack up militancy.
