Govt withdraws appeal to celebrate Feb 14 as 'Cow Hug Day'

February 14 is observed as 'Valentine's Day' across the world. In a notice, the board's Secretary S.K. Dutta said, "As directed by the competent authority and the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, the appeal issued by the Animal Welfare Board of India for celebration of Cow Hug Day on February 14 stands withdrawn."
Russia to display 5th generation Su-57E fighter jet at Aero India 2023

Visitors to the air show can expect to see Russia's most advanced military hardware on display, including the top-of-the-line fifth-generation Su-57E multirole fighter and the nimble Checkmate light tactical fighter. The showcase will also include the Il-76MD-90A(E) military transport plane, the Il-78MK-90A aerial refueling tanker, the Su-35 and Su-30SME supermaneuverable fighters, and the versatile MiG-35D multirole frontline fighter.
India gets one more rocket, SSLV-D2 orbits 3 satellites successfully

On its second developmental flight the SSLV-D2 put into orbit an earth observation satellite-07 (EOS-07) weighing about 156.3 kg and two others - 10.2 kg, Janus-1 belonging to ANTARIS of the US and 8.7 kg AzaadiSat-2 belonging to Space Kidz India, Chennai. Speaking after the successful launch S. Somanath, Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation said the country has one more rocket to launch satellites. In 2023, ISRO will launch a navigation satellite with its GSLV rocket.
India's small rocket SSLV-D2 lifts off with earth observation satellite

Piggybacking on that are two other satellites -- 10.2 kg Janus-1 belonging to ANTARIS of the US and 8.7 kg AzaadiSat-2 belonging to Space Kidz India, Chennai. The SSLV-D2 is carrying a total weight of 175.2 kg. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has developed SSLV with a carrying capacity of 500 kg to the Low Earth Orbit (LEO).

"The six-and-a-half hours countdown for the launch of SSLV-D2 (D-Developmental flight number 2) will begin at 2.48 a.m. on Friday," the official told IANS, preferring anonymity. The SSLV rocket carrying three satellites -- ISRO's Earth Observation Satellite - EOS-07, Janus-1 belonging to ANTARIS of the US and AzaadiSat-2 belonging to Space Kidz India.
SC removes reference to Sikkimese-Nepalese as 'persons of foreign origin' in its verdict

The Ministry of Home Affairs had filed a review petition against some of apex court observations referring to Sikkimese Nepalis as "immigrants" and sought modification. A bench of Justices M.R. Shah and B.V. Nagarathna agreed to remove the part "the persons of foreign origin settled in Sikkim like the Nepalese". Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, requested the bench to delete the entire sentence.
Supreme Court collegium recommends appointment of Chief Justices of 4 High Courts

A statement uploaded on the apex court website said: "The collegium has previously resolved to appoint Justice K. Vinod Chandran as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court. Since the date of that recommendation, the position of Chief Justices in number of other high courts has fallen vacant, consequent of retirement and elevation of the incumbent chief justices as judges of the Supreme Court."
PM Modi tears into Opposition, terms allegations against him as baseless

The Prime Minister also dismissed the allegations levelled against him by the Opposition leaders as baseless. Replying to the motion of thanks on President's address in the Lok Sabha, the Prime Minister said that at a time when a family is busy protecting its own interests (referring to Gandhi family), he has stood for the rights of the poor.
