Ex-CBI Director Ranjit Sinha passes away
A CBI source said that Sinha, a 1974 batch IPS officer, breathed his last at his residence here on Friday night around 4 a.m. According to senior CBI officials, Sinha's death is believed to be due to Covid-19-related complications. It is understood that he was confirmed positive for coronavirus on Thursday night. The 1974 batch IPS officer was CBI Chief from December 2012 till December 2014 for a period of two years.
Centre clears Mumbai's Haffkine to make Covaxin
Since the past month, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had repeatedly requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to allow the production of vaccines in the renowned institution in central Mumbai. The central approval came late on Thursday night green-flagging the 122-year-old Haffkine Institute, Parel, to produce the Bharat Biotech's Covaxin for one year under a technology transfer agreement.
Indo-French accelerator unveiled to spur tech innovation
"The accelerator will boost collaboration between India and France in the field of innovative technology and enable Indian start-ups to become part of the global ecosystem," said Narayan on the occasion. An agreement was also signed on the occasion between the Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IFCCI) and Karnataka Innovative & Technological Society to implement the accelerator programme between the two countries.
Global Covid-19 caseload tops 138.8mn
In its latest update on Friday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and death toll stood at 138,827,781 and 2,984,236, respectively. The US is the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 31,495,164 and 565,283, respectively, according to the CSSE.
Supreme Court adjourns BCCI hearing; top office-bearers to stay on

However, the three have continued as the Supreme Court (SC) hasn't been able to take up the matter. The SC had earlier deferred the matter on December 9 into the new year. After that in February, the Court adjourned the matter to March.

Night curfew hours extended in 10 UP cities
The curfew will now begin at 8 p.m. and end at 7 a.m. Earlier the curfew was from 9 p.m. to 6.am. The decision was taken during a virtual meeting of the 'Team 11' chaired by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday.
